Ptolemy’s Cluster — M7 / NGC 6475

This image captures the rich star field around Ptolemy’s Cluster, also known as Messier 7 or NGC 6475, located in the constellation Scorpius. M7 is one of the most striking open clusters in the summer Milky Way, set against a dense background of countless stars, warm galactic glow, and dark interstellar dust lanes. The bright blue-white stars of the cluster contrast beautifully with the golden-orange star clouds of the Milky Way behind them. Surrounding the cluster are intricate dark nebulae that partially obscure the background star field, giving the region a dramatic sense of depth and structure. This was processed to emphasise the warm, wide-field Milky Way character of the area while preserving the cooler tones of the brighter cluster stars. The result highlights both the beauty of M7 itself and the complex, dusty environment in which it appears to be embedded from our point of view.
