The Elephant’s Trunk under South Downs Skies
The Elephant’s Trunk Nebula region, centred around HIP 106890, was captured from Bignor Hill last Monday evening with the Seestar S30 Pro. This session gave me 2 hours and 30 minutes of integration under the South Downs skies. The image shows the rich star field and dark dust structures around IC 1396, with the “trunk” standing out as a darker column against the surrounding warm emission nebulosity. I processed this to keep a fairly natural, atmospheric look while bringing out the contrast in the dust lanes and the subtle structure across the nebula. Target: Elephant’s Trunk Nebula / IC 1396 region Reference star: HIP 106890 Location: Bignor Hill, West Sussex, UK Equipment: Seestar S30 Pro Integration: 2h 30m
