NGC 6334 – The Cat’s Paw Nebula
NGC 6334, commonly known as the Cat’s Paw Nebula, is a vast emission nebula and active star-forming region in the constellation Scorpius. This image was captured from a remote observatory at Siding Spring Observatory, Australia, taking advantage of the southern skies and dark observing conditions. The nebula’s distinctive glowing “paw” structures are shaped by young, massive stars embedded within clouds of hydrogen gas and dark interstellar dust. The rich orange-red emission highlights areas of ionised gas, while the surrounding dark lanes reveal dense dust clouds obscuring parts of the stellar nursery behind them. This field is packed with stars and intricate nebulosity, showing both the bright emission regions and the complex dusty environment that makes NGC 6334 such a spectacular southern-sky target. The final image emphasises the contrast between the luminous gas clouds, dark molecular material, and the dense Milky Way star field surrounding the nebula.
